New Works Festival Staged Reading #2

VENUS by Steve Yockey

Free to Attend (RSVP Required) - Saturday, April 5 at 2 PM - Location:  Frank’s Place at the Kalita Humphreys Theater (3636 Turtle Creek Blvd, Dallas, TX 75219)

VENUS is a pitch black comedy recounting one relationship as it spirals from a beautiful first date of stargazing to a spectacularly horrifying conclusion. Tackling the bizarre confluence of fear and love in modern life, the play lives in the same world as Yockey’s previous celestial-themed works PLUTO and MERCURY.

VENUS will star Kitchen Dog Co-Artistic Director Tina Parker and KDT Founder Sally Vahle. Playwright Steve Yockey will be in attendance.

Due to the Kalita Humphrys Theater’s historic architecture, this room is accessible only by stairs. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause

BAD BOOKS by Sharyn Rothstein (AT CAPACITY - NO MORE SEATS)

Free to Attend - Saturday, March 1 at 2 PM - Location:  Expo Park, 840 Exposition Avenue, Dallas, TX 75226

A worried mother comes to the library for what she thinks will be a reasonable, polite discussion about which books are appropriate for her teenage son. But her confrontation with the town librarian, a woman who cares deeply about her job and her community, sparks a chain reaction of consequences no one expected. Equal parts heartbreakingly poignant and absurdly funny, BAD BOOKS leaves audiences wondering what it truly means to care for our children. A raucous and brash debate in the quietest place in America... the library.

BAD BOOKS will be an upcoming NNPN Rolling World Premiere with our fellow NNPN member Theaters: Round House Theatre (Bethesda, MD), Florida Studio Theatre (Sarasota, FL), Curious Theatre Company (Denver, CO), and Williamston Theatre (Williamston, MI). For more information please visit nnpn.org
